What’s New?

I am offering a course on “Information Retrieval and Information Extraction” along with Prasad Pingali .

I will be at Language Technologies Institute (LTI) of Carnegie Mellon University for six weeks starting from March 9, 2010

TED.x (local TED event) of Hyderabad is on 31st January 2010 and I will be speaking at this event on language technologies

SIEL received a research grant from AOL for our proposal on Improving the TF/IDF scores using co-reference resolution

Research

My Research focus is on making information accessible using information retrieval, information extraction, summarization, and personalization technologies. I am interested in looking at unstructured textual information across languages and sources (web, enterprise, blogs etc). I am also interested in software architecture, software engineering education and large scale software development.

Publications: I have published a book on software architecture, more than fifty technical papers in the forms of book chapters, journal and conference papers - see the list of all my publications and also find the select list of tutorials, invited talks and lecture tours.

Visits: I was Visiting Professor at Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (UPV), Valencia, Spain (Summer 2007), Université de Bretagne Occidentale (UBO), Brest, France (Summer 2009) and will be at LTI, CMU, Pittsburgh during summer 2010.

Teaching and Guidance

I teach Information Retrieval and Extraction, NLP, Software Engineering, Software Architecture, Principles of Programming Languages, Cloud Computing courses—see the list of current and past courses I have offered.

I am currently working with six Ph.D. students (four in IR/IE and two in Software Engineering), 25 MS by Research students, and four research engineers—see the list of all my current and past students

Conference Organization

I am involved in organization of several conferences as conference chair (CSEE&T-2009), co-program chair (ICON-2009), local organization (IJCAI-07, IJCNLP-2008, ISEC-2008, …), and as a program committee member and reviewer. I conduct several workshops (CLIA workshop series, IICAI special sessions on NLP) and serve in the steering committees of CSEE&T, CSI-SIGSE, member of working groups of standards, awards committee member. I am currently the faculty in charge of Placements and part of the Industry outreach, entrepreneurship, brand building committees at IIIT Hyderabad—see the list of various professional activities I was/am involved in
